Citizens Advice: Standing Together Against Loneliness
At Citizens Advice, we believe no one should have to face life's challenges alone. For over 85 years, we’ve been helping people navigate tough times and find a way forward. As a charity dedicated to serving everyone, no matter who they are or what they’re facing, we’re here for the whole of society.
Every year, millions turn to us for support—whether they’re dealing with financial pressures, housing issues, employment concerns, or something else entirely. But behind each practical issue, there’s often something deeper—like isolation, anxiety, or the feeling that there’s no one to turn to. Loneliness doesn’t always look the way people expect, and we know it can affect anyone.
It can strike after major life events like losing a job, starting university, or moving to a new place. It’s often made worse by pressures like debt, the rising cost of living, or the struggle to find stable housing. For many of the people we help, loneliness isn’t just a temporary feeling—it’s part of their everyday experience.
While we’re not a specialist loneliness service, connection is at the core of what we do. Every time someone reaches out—whether through a quick online query or a detailed conversation with an adviser—they’re met with empathy and understanding. We listen without judgment and support people in regaining a sense of control and dignity.
Our local Citizens Advice offices are deeply rooted in their communities and often serve as a lifeline for those who feel isolated. Whether it’s offering a friendly face, advocating on someone’s behalf, or signposting to community groups and support networks, we’re here to help people reconnect.
This Loneliness Awareness Week, we’re proud to stand with the Marmalade Trust in raising awareness that loneliness is a natural human emotion. No one should feel ashamed to talk about it. If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed or alone, please remember—support is out there.
Marmalade Trust: Helping You Understand and Talk About Loneliness
At Marmalade Trust, we believe loneliness is a natural human emotion. It's something we all experience, yet many people still feel uncomfortable talking about it. That’s why we’re working to reduce the stigma and help people understand that feeling lonely doesn’t mean something is wrong—it means you’re human.
Each year, thousands of people face changes in their lives that leave them feeling isolated—whether it’s losing a job, moving to a new place, starting university, or simply struggling with the pressures of modern life. And while loneliness can affect anyone, it often goes unseen, quietly impacting people’s confidence, mental health, and sense of belonging.
At Marmalade Trust, we don’t just raise awareness—we build understanding. Through our resources, campaigns, and annual Loneliness Awareness Week, we encourage open conversations about loneliness. We support individuals and communities in recognising and normalising it, while also offering practical ways to reconnect and build meaningful relationships.
We know that loneliness can be made worse by financial stress, health challenges, and limited social connections. That’s why we work with organisations, schools, workplaces, and community groups across the UK to help people feel more connected and less alone.
This Loneliness Awareness Week, we invite you to join the conversation. Let’s break the stigma, support each other, and spread the message that it’s okay to feel lonely—and it’s okay to talk about it.
You’re not alone. Start your journey to connection with us.
